Front Squat PR and an Ode to Aldi.

I flipping love Aldi.
Since Mike is chasing his dream job, our income has dropped a bit so we had to get really creative with buying cheap. Aldi, in the past year, has really improved their selection. Organic, fresh, and amazing food. I feel great buying healthy without breaking my bank.

We found a recipe from Aldi themselves of a Vegetarian Ratatouille. And y’all. This is one of the best.

Zucchini. Squash (my fav). Onions. Tomatoes. All the good stuff. It helps too that a friend of ours just gave us 15# of tomatoes from their garden.

If you’re looking for a killer meal prep recipe, that’s the one. It makes 6-8 servings and I got lunch this week.

Wednesday, we are rockin’ out on Stuffed Peppers! Which are my all time favorite.

Workout was a quicker one. 5 Deadlifts and 10 Burpees X 5 goes a lot quicker than you might think.

My last 3 RM for front squats was 130#. I thought hard about it (my one rep is at 150# and I haven’t really pushed on this yet) and threw on two extra tens to make 140#. Was pretty sure that when I unracked it, I made an “oof!” sounds as I could feel the pressure of the weight on there.

But, I asked Mike to watch and make sure. Did them back to back — though challenging — and I feel awesome.

Tomorrow, we Cindy. It’s my favorite girl workout so I am very excited.

I am already feeling the normal deadlift soreness so I am sure it will be in full force tomorrow. But, my groin muscle injury is over so I am very excited about that.

Athlete Zero: Now with Handwritten WODs

Carl activated the AZ Facebook again because it seems he’s getting back into coaching — which is lovely. He posted the following photos which is kind of nice as opposed to his slow run of text messages.

I like being able to move around my workouts. Carl doesn’t care what order or what day — just get it done.

Light day today but looking forward to throwing some iron around.

We had some friends in town this week so I threw my diet out the window. But, Mike is off to get some groceries and we are going to be having:

  • Stuffed Peppers (Vegetarian)
  • Vegetarian Ratatouille
  • Chicken and Jasmine Rice
  • Black Bean Burgers

Pretty solid start to the week.

I am stoked for my Front Squats today. My last PR was 135# and I think I am ready to go up a notch. It’s my grip I gotta work on. But, practice makes perfect.

Oh! In other news, I FINALLY DID A FULL BOX JUMP. My brain wouldn’t let me and would stop my feet before I even could make the jump for an entire year. I did it last week and did it again to be sure. I am going to keep practicing so I don’t slip back into the “you’re going to fall and hurt yourself” idea.

In non-workout news, I got the Electric Palette from Urban Decay and you could say I am pretty obsessed with it so far.

To makeup and squats! May your weights be high and your sprints be long!

Muscles and Hustles.

We made so much damn pulled pork that I have lunch for the entire week. Reheats really well, too!

And my experiment continues with protein pancakes. This time, strawberry!

This week, workouts are short but heavy. I am used to Carl’s 60 minute WODS and strength and this week, for whatever reason, is really short bursts. I don’t mind the change, don’t get me wrong!

Tonight is:

2 rounds fast but not Flash fast:

Row 500 meters

20 Push-ups

12 Ring Rows

Strength Superset

DB Strict Shoulder Press 20, 18. 15, 12, 10, 8+

Lat Pulldowns 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, AMRAP

Run 1 mile x 2 – rest as needed between efforts (not to exceed 8 min)

I missed last week one day so I did something called SWORKIT. It’s an app where you can either make your own workout or choose one they created.  Then, you set the minutes and you’re off. It’s a good alternative if you miss a gym day. Just a few moves and you will feel sore after it!

Speaking of sore — I pulled my groin muscle in rowing. I have been really careful with it to not make it worse but it’s the first time I have ever done this. I gotta shoot Coach R.E. an email so I can get this bad boy fixed.

Everything else is pretty swell. I hope you are doing great, too, reader!
